Sex gratifies all five senses: sight, taste, smell, hearing and touch. We have a rich erotic heritage, but often this sexual culture is ignored in favour of a mechanistic approach to the subject; the "sex manual". In this book, each of the senses is examined in turn, from an erotic perspective, and in a broad cultural context. It contains extracts from the sexual literature of East and West, and is illustrated with work from such artists as Renoir, Breughel, Rodin, Klimt and Schiele, as well as explicit works from anonymous painters.
