Algebra

The new Maths National Curriculum recognizes the importance of Algebra by giving it an Attainment Target of its own (AT3). However, many teachers are unfamiliar with this content area and lack confidence in teaching it. This "Practical Guide" demystifies this topic by providing teachers with both the vital INSET type of background material and a resource of structured and open-ended activities in the three recognised strands - patterns and relationships; formulae, equations and inequalities, and graphical representation. The author also shows the role algebra can play in other areas of the maths curriculum and across the whole curriculum.
