Sandymount is a comparative newcomer in terms of Dublin suburbs, since it only started to develop in the mid-nineteenth century, after the arrival of the railway from Westland Row to Kingstown. Yet despite that comparatively recent start, it has become a very distinctive place, with a strong village atmosphere. Local historian and author Hugh Oram explores its history in this collection of over 200 archive images. Accompanied by detailed and informative captions, each page captures life in the area as it once was and is now, providing a vital record of the changing face of Sandymount.
