It's a book that highlights the contrast between the racism out there and that family feeling that exists within the Ska scene, regardless of nationality, language, gender or colour.
It's a book that contains 355 photos of 47 Ska bands, a Bonus CD to listen to whilst going through the book, and 38 written contributions in ten different languages accompanied by translations into English.
It's a book. A family photo album. A joint statement about unity, and against racism.
A true celebration of diversity.
Ska artists that collaborated on Meet my Family by writing a piece include big names
like Studio One artist Norma Fraser, Pyramids/Symarip members Roy Ellis and Monty Neysmith, Mark Foggo, The Busters, Blechreiz, No Sports, Dr Ring Ding, The Hacklers, Valkyrians and Skarface to name just a few.
The preface of the book is written by Bucket, singer of The Toasters, and Bosky, keyboard player with The Hotknives contributed a short biography of Mie, the photographer and editor of this book.
Mie hopes that this book will raise people's awareness of the growing problems as a result of racism, xenophobia and bigotry by bringing a positive message of focusing on what unites people, rather than on what divides them.
However, she's also putting her money where her mouth is: All profits she'll make from the book will go to 'Love Music Hate Racism', a not-for-profit campaign almost exclusively run by volunteers that uses the energy of the music scene to celebrate diversity and promote anti-racism.
It aims to become an educational trust that uses the power of music to bring individuals
and communities together in a beautiful resistance against bigotry and hatred.
