In this not quite memoir, not quite autobiography, not quite travelogue, the author travels to the edge of the Sahara in Morocco, drives across the deserts of Australia, goes on a day trip to the Pyramids and returns to the deserts of California, Arizona and New Mexico. His journeys, full of visual events and changing landscapes, give him time to reflect on his failed marriage, his new relationship and the imminent death of his father, who is suddenly diagnosed as being terminally ill when Nicholson is half - way through his travels. The author also wrote "Street Sleeper", which was shortlisted for the Yorkshire Post First Novel Award, "The Knot Garden", "What we Did on Our Holidays" and "Hunters and Gatherers".
