The Biochemistry of the Brain

This text adopts a modern approach to the understanding of the biochemistry of synaptic function, the primary building block of mind and higher brain processes. This work concentrates on the isolated nerve terminal or synatosome, the simplest model in which all the important events of neurotransmission can be produced. The book aims to provide a detailed biochemical insight into the mechanism of release of the major class of amino-acid neurotransmiters such as GABA which directly affect the neuronal membrane and loss of which is one of the factors in crippling diseases such as Huntingdon's chorea.
