Inspired by a guru on BBC2, Nicholl (author of "The Fruit Palace") set out to find his temple in the north of Thailand and learn about Buddhism. Borderlines is a traveller's eye view of life in upcountry Thailand and Burma, of crossing borderlines real and imaginary, of detours and opium dens.
