Ha mais de quatro decadas, o PHTLS: Atendimento Pre Hospitalar ao Traumatizado revolucionou a avaliacao e o tratamento dos pacientes vitimas de trauma no ambiente pre hospitalar. Ao longo dos anos, o curso do PHTLS aperfeicou a qualidade do tratamento dos pacientes de trauma, salvando vidas no mundo inteiro. A Decima Edicao deste programa de referencia da continuidade a missao do PHTLS: promover a excelencia nos cuidados com o paciente vitima de trauma ao capacitar profissionais de atendimento pre hospitalar em ambito mundial.
O programa foi elaborado pela National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) no inicio dos anos 80, em parceria com o American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT). O conteudo clinico recebe atualizacoes frequentes e e sempre revisado para representar as informacoes e as praticas com base cientifica mais atuais. O PHTLS sustenta que o pensamento critico e a base de um bom atendimento. Essa filosofia parte da conviccao de que os profissionais de APH tomam as melhores decisoes possiveis para seus pacientes quando providos de uma base solida de informacoes e de principios essenciais que os permita pensar de forma critica.
