This paper makes a contribution to the strategic planning of investments in Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS), consolidating their basis and value for organizations today. To this end, this work proposes an approach to formulating and structuring investments through the strategic classification of IT and IS portfolio alternatives. The study model was applied to a company that makes periodic investments in the area. Through the results obtained, it was possible to analyze the strategic impact of the alternatives, and through the analysis, it was found that they were not aligned with the organizational objectives. To this end, the study suggested a new model for verifying the strategic impacts of IT and IS investment alternatives and, after its application, it was found that the alternatives worked on through portfolios had strategic impacts that were more in line with the organizational objectives. It can therefore be concluded that using the proposed model it was possible to identify investment decisions in the area that best fit the organization's strategic vision.
