Muthal Naidoo was born in Pietermaritzburg in 1935. She studied English and drama at the University of Natal and worked as a school teacher for 45 years in Marabastad, Pretoria and Giyani, Limpopo Province. She has written extensively for the theatre as well as works of social commentary.
