Dean Reed was born on a chicken farm in Colorado and became the biggest pop star in the history of the Soviet Union. For 25 years, until his death in mysterious circumstances in 1986 in East Germany, he made records and appeared in films throughout the Eastern Bloc. The book is as much about Nadelson's search for Dean Reed as about Reed himself, divided according to the places she visited in search of her hero: Hollywood, Hawaii, Colorado, Denver, Santiago, Rome, New York, London, East Berlin, Prague and the Soviet Union.
