This study aims to complement the global programme of the Baby Friendly Initiative. This programme emphasizes the protection, promotion and support of breast feeding, and it implicitly embraces a notion of quality of midwifery care that is both technical and relational. Clinical research in viewed in different countries - for example Botswana, Australia and the Philippines, outlining the wider policy and programme issues which are of relevance to an international audience. Different sections of the book deal with different policy themes, using case studies to provide insight into the problems of programme implementation on the ground.
