At a seaside resort in high summer, the naked body of a girl is found on the beach. Worse still, there is a second murder and everything becomes highly complicated for D.I Randolph Logan and the attractive Sergeant Shelagh Ruby. A plea for help from Councillor Melanie Biles, the alluring wife of his Chief Constable, leads into the dark byways of local political corruption. Though emotionally involved with Melanie, Logan refuses to save her and the reputations of other local dignitaries by accepting an innocent dead man as the murderer. With love and his career at stake, Logan, with the loyal Shelagh at his side, carries on an increasingly violent investigation in the knowledge that a result will ruin those for whom he cares.
