This is a book about executive education - that is, the training of people already in managerial positions for jobs of greater responsibility. It is not a how-to book on setting up programmes, but rather an examination of the key issues in the process of executive education in an increasingly complex world. The book summarises the major changes in the business environment impacting on managerial competency, surveys how the field is developing to meet the needs of the changing environment, and draws conclusions about how the field can meet the anticipated needs of executives in the future. It examines the three principal players involved: 1) the corporation and its commitment to executive development; 2) executives themselves and their dedication to life-long learning on and off the job, and 3) directors of executive education who want to offer programmes that meet the evolving needs of managers. The authors intend the book for human resource people responsible for executive development, and for people in business schools directly, or indirectly, involved in executive programmes.
