This book presents a study of the theoretical ideas which great socialist thinkers, such as Marx, Engels, Bernstein, Luxemburg and Lenin, developed on unionism, its place in the development of class consciousness and its relations with capitalism and political goals. The book also traces the evolution of Catholic trade-union theory, ending with the Polish Solidarity movement, which the author sees as a Christian variant of revisionist trade-union theory.
