The Library Disaster Preparedness

The topics discussed in this handbook include basic building security, problem patrons, theft and mutilation of library materials, fire protection, water damage, designing library buildings for safety and security, preservation and insurance and risk management. Security and safety systems and devices for libraries are examined, including automataic warning systems for fire and water, intrusion and theft detection systems, fire supression systems and wet book salvage technologies. Technical issues are presented and guidelines for library staff in preventing and reacting to emergencies are explained.
