E B Lewis was born in Philadelphia in 1956. In 1986 he completed a body of work, which was exhibited in a Philadelphia gallery. The show sold out. Within two years his work was exhibited at the prestigious Rosenfeld Gallery, where his shows continue to sell out. Lewis has illustrated several books and is the recipient of a Caldecott Honor Book award and a Coretta Scott King Honor for Illustration. Currently, he is teaching illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
