An introduction to parallel computation and the application of parallel algorithms to numerical linear algebra. The emphasis is on the design and analysis of algorithms which are of importance to industrial and academic research. The first part of the book is devoted to a discussion of the general principles and techniques involved and a number of examples are used to illustrate these. Dr Modi then goes on to describe some key areas of application such as sorting, linear systems, partial differential equations, singular value decomposition and eigenvalue analysis. The book arises from a lecture course at the University of Cambridge and is aimed at those interested in the design and implementation of algorithms in parallel computing.
