This story comes directly from the mouth of Frank Mena, better known as Lucky in the MC world. It is kind of hard to argue Lucky's side of how the Vagos MC got its start since he is the sole surviving original member. In 1966, 13 friends started a motorcycle club in San Bernardino or Berdoo, as they called it. Many names were kicked around, like the Coffin Dodgers and the Satan Saints, before the 13 agreed on Vagos MC. Vago is a Chicano slang term for vagrant.

The name seemed perfect for the 13 members, so on May 18th, the Vagos MC was born.After the name of the club was established, the patch was the next thing on the mind of the 13 members. Lucky was browsing through a copy of Life magazine and came across a picture of a devil surrounded by smoke that read return from hell. The image was perfect, Lucky thought, so he and Animal presented it to the group. The devil and the green on green were voted in unanimously.
