Warfare in the Twentieth Century

In this overview the editors emphasize the gulf that exists between the theory and practice of war in the 20th century. They believe that war and preparation for war have dominated this century on an unprecedented scale, and examine in this text such themes as the impact of war on society, nuclear strategy, theories of insurgency and counter-insurgency, tactics and strategy on land, the role of sea power, the evolution of strategic bombing, and colonial and revolutionary warfare.
