This volume is aimed at novice programmers, who have already learnt a language such as Basic or Pascal. It is divided into three parts. The first part gives an outline of C, with reference to other languages, illustrated by several short programs. The second, main, part explores in depth the concepts already explained and then covers all the key features of the language. Again, sample short programs are given, and some large programs are used to demonstrate how to link the different aspects of the language together. The third section is mainly for reference, looking at the standard function libraries and the varieties of C.
