Negotiating Health

Using children's accounts as starting points, this book focuses on children as active negotiators of health at home and school. The author uses data collected from 5- and 9-year-olds, their mothers and primary school staff in one school. The book considers the social world of the school as it impinges on children's health and well-being; it explores teachers' caring work, the lay health care system of the school, the contribution of the school health service, and how mothers and teachers interact on behalf of the children.
