About the author GREGORY L. MATLOFF, PhD, is a consulting astronomer for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. He is an Adjunct Professor at Long Island University and a former Chairman of the Department of Mathematics, St. Hilda's and St. Hugh's School, New York. He has also been a professor at Pace University and The City University of New York.
