This book is written principally for students in further education following a first programming course. The book covers the elements of C needed at this level, and provides around a semester's worth of material to extend and support a course of introductory lectures. The style is based on the belief that students learn best by example. A tutorial approach is used, introducing basic elements of the language in simple programs. Carefully graded exercises reinforce and develop understanding until the student can tackle the larger projects towards the end of the book. Features of the language not arising in the tutorials are covered in an appendix. Having completed this book the student should be able to make proficient use of C and its standard library, and be ready to move on to advanced programming techniques.
