The "Liverpool A-Z" artists catalogue accompanies the three-part artwork commissioned by FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology) and Liverpool Biennial International 06. Toronto-based artist Kelly Mark and tenantspin, a community-driven Internet TV Channel managed by FACT, Arena Housing and tenants of high-rise flats, produced Liverpool A-Z as a video work comprising interviews with 26 Liverpool-based people whose names begin with the letters A-Z. Kelly and tenantspin piece together a city in which no areas are deemed inaccessible, unnecessary or undesirable. The arts, law, history, philosophy, entertainment, sport, activism and media are all represented. As are the gaps in-between; people as citizens, observers, doers, participants in urban life and people as fine details of this great city, brought together to form more than the sum of the parts. The book contains a contextual essay by Alan Dunn (FACT/tenantspin) and quotes from each of the 26 participants, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what people think about, talk about and get up to in Liverpool. Screen grabs from each interview and shots of the high-rise location studio are also included to create a picture of the processes behind this complex yet dynamic project. Designed as a mock A-Z street guide, Liverpool A-Z includes an urban planner, Nigerian Prince, policeman, traditional Chinese dancer, BBC presenter, pensioner activist, skateboard photographer, philosopher and Hispanic Language Assistant.
