He began researching his family history when he was thirteen, this developed over the years into local history, examining the places in which his family played out their lives. He is married and now lives in Birdsedge. His other interests include rambling around the local hills and fields with his dog, Charis, travelling around Britain and frequenting his local pub, "The George' in Upper Denby. He is also the author of 'The History of the Denby Dale Pies.'
