This two-volume set provides the hard facts and the history behind the headlines; significant 20th-century events in the evolution of all aspects of business and commerce are described in 374 chronologically-arranged articles. Each article opens with ready-reference top matter listing the category of the event discussed, from advertising to transportation; where and when the event occurred; a brief summary of the event's significance in the history of business and commerce; and a description of the protagonists involved.
The text of each article is divided into two sections: Summary of the Event describes the event itself and the circumstances leading up to it, and Impact of the Event analyzes the influence of the event on the evolution of business practice or on a major industry in both the short and long terms. Each article concludes with a fully annotated Bibliography. Special features include: the Geographical Index; the Category Index, in which the articles are arranged by their major subcategories in the realm of Business or Commerce (such as advertising, management, or international business and commerce); and the Principal Personages Index, listing the individuals identified in the top matter of the articles.
