The European Road Freighting Handbook

The Single European Market will bring considerable change to the road freight industry both in the UK and across the whole continent of Europe. The change will result from the removal of trade barriers between Community member states, from the liberalization of transport controls and documentation procedures, and from the harmonization of operating standards and vehicle-related taxes and duties. This guide takes account of a changing scene and the complexities the road transport operator faces. It provides readers throughout Europe with current and factual information on: the present status of Single Market implementation measures; EC road freight transport-related legislation; and intra-EC transport operational procedures and practices. The handbook is structured in three parts for easy reference. Part 1 deals with all legal and operational matters (driver licensing, drivers' hours, cross-border controls, customs, international agreements, the Channel Tunnel, cross-Channel ferry services, road/rail transport, etc). Part 2 provides a country-by-country guide to EC states, plus Austria and Switzerland. Part 3 forms a directory of services and official organizations.
