A symposium such as this one on the theory of resonances is always timely. The mathematical developments as well as many new experimental techniques make the field very much alive. Computations have been playing the role of numerical experiments in this field, and while some of these have had a doubtful mathematical basis, others have exposed new roads and unexpected avenues. Characterization of resonances, their connection with modern many-body methods, the proper relationship to their time- resolved spectroscopies and various central problems in energy transfer remain open problems.
