This book deals with the specific applications of both chemical and physical means of disinfection in veterinary practice. An chapter on important veterinary pathogens written from an epidemiological point of view sets the background. This is followed by chapters describing the types of chemical disinfectants and the factors influencing their activity, the ways in which microbial resistance occurs, physical means of disinfection and sterilization, principles of methods used for evaluating veterinary disinfectant activity in vitro and in the practical situation, and the practical uses of veterinary disinfectants. Finally legal aspects of the control, supply, labelling and distribution of these are described. Wherever possible, the principles and practical aspects of veterinary disinfection have been considered. As such, the book should be of value to undergraduate students of veterinary medicine and microbiology, to veterinary surgeons, to those teaching and practising animal husbandry and to all others engaged in the practice of veterinary disinfection and hygiene.
