John Lewell is the author of Digital Photography for Next to Nothing (2010) and The Digital Photographer's Software Guide (2008), as well as earlier books on computer graphics and professional audio-visual (AV) production. Born in England, he was educated at Framlingham College and went on to gain an MA (Hons) in English and Fine Art at Peterhouse, Cambridge. His interest in photography began when he was a teenager, taking pictures for local businesses and on trips to Italy to support his studies of Italian art. After moving to the United States as a sales manager for AV systems company Electrosonic Inc., John turned to full-time writing, becoming West Coast Editor of Computer Pictures magazine and US correspondent for European journals.
