How do the American media function overseas during the "outbreak of news"? To what extent is their coverage governed by their own agenda? The author analyzes the coverage of one American wire service, three national newspapers and three national networks, which had long-standing bureaux in Israel. He shows how, after the dramatic opening weeks of the demonstrations, the intifada became routinized and the US media, now satiated, grew tired of the story.
