The era of the flapper and the jazz age, right before the Depression set in, is when these hotels were being built in New York and in the resort towns of Florida. They are such a part of America's luxury hotel history, but they have not received "architectural historical" attention. The resurgence of interest in "conservative, high-brow" architecture and its subtle cultural nuances have become fair game again, as evidenced by monographs on Emery Roth, Candela & Carpenter, and most notably, McKim, Mead, & White. So here we are, with another set of NY architects, to be rediscovered in all their (somewhat naive and culturally telling) notions of glamour in the hours before America's great fall.
