A comparative study of selected works by Irena Lagator Pejovic and Christine de Pizan
with an introduction by Mis?ko S?uvakovic´ and an afterword by Elke Krasny
At the heart of this text-picture volume are two outstanding artistic works, Irena Lagator Pejovic's Knowledge of the Limited Responsibility Society (2009-) and Christine de Pizan's Livre de la cité des dames [The Book of the City of Ladies] (ca. 1405), both focusing on female city-building.
In her approach, Monika Leisch-Kiesl compares the relationship of ethics and aesthetics in the artistic and scientific practices of Renaissance writer Christine de Pizan and contemporary visual artist Irena Lagator Pejovic.
An introduction by Mis?ko S?uvakovic´ undertakes a journey into an exciting rebus of books and cities spanning two different historical epochs and ecopolitical constellations; an afterword by Elke Krasny provides a feminist reflection on the ethics of urban responsibility under the conditions of capital.

Christine de Pizan (* 1364 in Venedig) lebte und wirkte am Hof der Valois in Paris und gilt als die erste Berufsschriftstellerin Frankreichs. Sie partizipierte an politischen Debatten und war eine wichtige Stimme in der Querelle des Femmes. Unter ihren rund 40 Schriften zählen Le livre de la cité des dames / Das Buch von der Stadt der Frauen and Le trésor de la cité des dames / Der Schatz der Stadt der Frauen auch gegenwärtig zu den bekanntesten.
