Metasprachliche Lexikographie

This two-part study sets out to characterize the aims, history, status and usefulness of linguistic dictionaries in German. The first part traces the growth of the need for linguistic codification, starting with the establishment of linguistics proper in the 19th century. It is from this development that the present range of offerings ultimately springs. The second part gives a comparative and critical analysis of all the dictionaries published between 1967 and 1990 with reference to a case example. The last section offers recommendations for the principles on which linguistic dictionaries should be based in future.
 
Diese zweiteilige Untersuchung verfolgt das Ziel, Geschichte, Stand und Nutzen der deutschsprachigen linguistischen Wörterbücher zu charakterisieren. Der erste Teil zeigt auf, wie mit der Etablierung der Sprachwissenschaft im 19. Jahrhundert das Bedürfnis nach terminologischer Kodifizierung wuchs, aus dem schließlich das mittlerweile vorhandene Angebot resultiert. Im zweiten Teil werden alle zwischen 1967 und 1990 entstandenen Werke anhand eines Fallbeispiels einer vergleichend-kritischen Analyse unterzogen. Den Abschluss bilden Empfehlungen zur künftigen Gestaltung linguistischer Wörterbücher.
