The book is divided thematically into popular collecting areas: entertainment memorabilia, printed materials, games and hobbies, costume, gadgets, social history and the decorative arts. Each chapter features personal stories about unique collections - Margaret Tyler and her royal memorabilia, Shirley Ebury's Cliff Richard collection and David Dunning's hoovers - giving the social history of the item and discussing pieces in the collection in detail. In each chapter Chrissie Kravchenko also discusses the field more generally, suggesting related collections, how to get started, where to find things and other useful hints. The book includes a reference section featuring useful addresses of collectors' clubs and museums, guidance about collecting and the law and suggestions about how to store and display your collection.
