Braunschweig

Ein Fürstensitz der Brunonen (Namensgeber der Stadt) geht an dieser Stelle wohl bis in das 9. Jahrhundert zurück. Heinrich der Löwe baute Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts den Burgplatz zum Zentrum seiner Macht aus. Von dieser Zeit zeugen noch der Dom und die Löwenstatue. Der Platz entspricht zum größten Teil heute noch seinem mittelalterlichen Grundriss. Allerdings hatte z. B. die Handwerkskammer ursprünglich einen anderen Standort.

At this place a princely residence of the Brunonen (namesake of the city) can be traced back to the 9th Century. Towards the middle of the 12th century Heinrich der Löwe "Henry the Lion" consolidated the Castle Square as the center of his leadership. The Cathedral and the lion statue bear witness of this time. Even today, most parts of the square respond to the medieval plan. However, the Dankwarderode Castle and the Chamber of Trade had originally a different location.

En este lugar, y desde el siglo IX, estaba la sede del principado de los brunones (que dan nombre a la ciudad). A mediados del Siglo Xll Heinrich der Löwe "Enrique el León" convirtió la plaza del castillo en el centro de su dominio. La Catedral y la estatua del león dan testimonio a estos tiempos. La mayor parte de la plaza de hoy mantiene el trazado medieval. Sin embargo, el castillo Dankwarderode y el edificio de la cámara de comercio tenían, originalmente, otra ubicación.

Das ehemalige Residenzschloss wurde 1838 als klassizistisches Gebäude von dem Architekten Carl Theodor Ottmer errichtet. Nach den Kriegszerstörungen und dem vollständigen Abriss 1960 konnten 2007 zumindest die Fassaden wieder hergestellt werden. Heute beherbergt es die Stadtbibliothek, das Stadtarchiv und ein Museum, ist jedoch auch Teil des Einkaufszentrums "Schloss-Arkaden".

The palace oc the dukes of Brunswick, originaly built in 1838, was devastated in World War ll and the completely demolited in 1960. In 2007 the oriental facades were rebuilt in most parts true to the original. Nowadays the building is part of a shopping center. Furthermore, it houses the city library, city archives and galleries of the Metropolitan Museum.

El palacio de los duques de Braunschweig, construido en 1838, fue devastado en la segunda guerra mundial y completamente demolido en 1960. En el año 2007 las fachades occidentales fueron reconstruidas, en gran parte conforme al original. Hoy en día el edificio es parte de un centro comercial. Además, alberga la biblioteca municipal, el archivo de la ciudad y salas de exposiciones del museo municipal.
