To fully understand all aspects of the Accent Method (AM) of voice therapy, the author begins with a review of the pathophysiological model of voice disorders and the aetiological classification of these disorders. This is an important prerequisite to better understand the indications and uses of the AM of voice therapy. The importance of the detailed assessment of the voice disorder prior to proper management is stressed. An outline of the suggested protocol of assessment is provided.
