Caribbean society has constantly been characterized by poverty, dependence, and alienation. The Caribbean Conference of Churches, during the 1970's, promoted extensive development programmes to meet these challenges. Was this development activity recognizable as theological praxis? This study provides a framework for such a recognition by exploring a theological hermeneutic appropriate to the Caribbean, and by suggesting a theologically illuminating way of understanding why liberation praxis and Church proclamation are inseparable for Christian witness in the Caribbean.
