The construction industry has long preferred to settle disputes by arbitration, rather than litigation, but in recent years arbitration has often proved to be drawn out and costly. To make arbitration more effective, the Joint Contracts Tribunal introduced in July 1988, a set of JCT Arbitration Rules to be incorporated in all JCT contracts. This new guide examines the three main procedures introduced by the Rules and gives practical advice on how to get the most out of them. It also includes the full text of the new Rules.
