"Pete" Johnston worked as a reporter and editor in the foreign department at United Press International before becoming an editor and writer for the "Week in Review" section at "The New York Times." He then became a professor in the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where he also served as its Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.In 1990 he moved to the School of International and Public Affairs to head the media and communications program. He is the author of The Bumpy Road to Disarmament, Journalism and the Media .
