Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided management (CAM) have immense potential in the development of restorative dentistry. As the authors of this book write in their preface, it "is a means to an end. It allows us to use materials, which we would not otherwise be able to use, to produce a better restoration for the patient. It also reduces the inconvenience and discomfort of multiple visits with intervening laboratory stages - the most desirable aspect is the high quality end-product; - a strong, durable and aesthetic ceramic restoration". After a brief discussion of CAD and CAM, the revolutionary Cerec method is introduced and case preparation factors are presented. In the following sections Jedynakiewicz and Martin present all aspects of tooth preparation design; liners and bases for Cerec tooth preparations; the Cerec software; the optical impression; the milling process; further preparation designs; finishing, cementing, polishing and aesthetics. The text is complemented by large numbers of three-dimensional illustrations.
The book is highly praised for the help it will give students, new users and experts in understanding and using the Cerec method by Professor Werner H. Mormann of the University of Zurich Dental Institute, a leading authority on the use of computers in dental restoration.
