Simon Hughes's cricketing career began at Middlesex in 1980 where he remained for 12 seasons until completing his playing days with Durham. He won four county championship medals and five one-day trophies, taking over 750 wickets. He moved into the commentary box for the BBC between 1996 and 1999 while also pursuing writting interests. He won the 1997 William Hill Sports Book of the year award for A Lot of Hard Yakka, and currently writes a column for the Daily Telegraph.
