History Detective: Bk. 1

The detective work of real historians is examined in this book which attempts to show pupils what evidence is, how it is discovered and evaluated and how to use local records to examine their surroundings or research their own family's history. It is the first book in a series of two which contains case studies dealing with the such events as the opening of Tutankhamen's tomb, the raising of the Mary Rose, the Vikings in York and World War I and II. Questions are provided in the text to encourage pupils to work out for themselves what the evidence tells them.
