This volume provides an insight into life in Europe as seen through the eyes of journalists working through the medium of the lesser-used languages of Europe. Journalists were invited to describe a week in their own work, and thus give a dynamic picture of their community. Subjects covered by the book range from the referendum on Europe in Finland to festivals, conferences, murder-cases and the weather. With all cases the aim was to throw light, directly or indirectly, on the communities concerned and the state of their languages. All the contributions have been translated to English. The languages represented by journalists writing in the volume are Scottish Gaelic, Galician, Alsatian, Croatian in Italy, Welsh, Catalase (from Valencia), Asturian, Breton, Friul, Basque, Sorbian, Occitan, German (in Denmark), Provencal (in Piedmont), Swedish (in Finland), Franco-Provencal/French (in Vallee d'Aoste), Scots, Fries and Irish.
