This is one of the major works of Nasir-i Khusraw, the famous Persian Ismaili philosopher, poet and traveller, who flourished in the Badakhshan region of Central Asia during the 5th/11th century. Divided into 51 sections, it contains the ta'wil (esoteric interpretations) of a range of Islamic religious commandments such as prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, etc.
