This series tells what life was like for children, from birth to adulthood, in a particular period of history. With more than five million men and boys away fighting in The First World War, family life was severely disrupted. Here, the author recreates what it was like to grow up during the war years, both in Britain and abroad, with extracts from letters and diaries. The author has also written "Shop", "History in Focus: Hair Styles and Head-Dresses" as well as a numer of general books on historical subjects.
