Chinese Politics in Malaysia

Recent works on Malaysian politics have tended to treat the politics of the Chinese in Malaysia as one component part in the complex overall mosaic of multi-racial politics in that country. The present intensive study tries to give greater focus to the unique configuration of Chinese political development within that mosaic. The Malaysian Chinese Association plays a crucial role in weaning Malaysians of Chinese descent away from their preoccupations with the old motherland and engaging their active participation in the mainstream politics of their adopted homeland. This text examines the the role of the MCA in the events surrounding the defeat of the communist insurgency and the attainment of independence.
