This is an alternative introductory book to the age old sport of bowls, as well as an essential guide to all the jargon heard on the green and in the clubhouse but very much with a tongue in cheek approach leaving no stone left unturned in search of a light-hearted humorous angle. Originally released as "The Bowling Club" in 2004 which has since sold out, this new publication completely revamps the original adding further material, new chapters and even an artists gallery which swells the former 70 page publication to a much more respectable read. There's a lot more laughs along the way, whilst stories, phrases, commentary and comedy combine to give any lover of this sport more than a few chuckles. Written by a bowler who clearly has a genuine affection for the sport as well as a deeper understanding of the game this is one book that should bring familiarity to any participant or spectator. Any sport benefits from being able to take a not too serious look at itself and this definitely takes a 'gloves off' approach from the inside out.

Paul Hammond's first publication in April 2004 THE BOWLING CLUB (ISBN 978-0-9546633-0-8) eventually sold out in 2008. It was originally written as a light-hearted beginners guide to the sport of Bowls, released just as a 'local interest' book but eventually ended up selling well across the UK. As a first effort it seemed acceptable at the time; 'a bit of fun' that people liked but was really never meant to be a literary masterpiece. Looking back after the release of two professionally produced publications, THE NEW SEASON (2005) and GOING INDOORS (2007) on reflection Paul could see its many obvious flaws. Nevertheless he has been inundated with requests for this book since its first edition sold out and second hand copies continue to change hands on Amazon and eBay. Paul was already working hard on TANTRUMS ON TOUR, the third of the Revd Percival Peabody series, but has decided, because of rising demand for copies of the first release of THE BOWLING CLUB, to delay this. He is currently undertaking a complete revamp of the first publication, updating its content significantly, adding new chapters, rewriting existing ones and even adding a bowlers 'caricature' picture gallery, created by a local artist. The layout, grammer, expression and terminology is greatly improved; a new cover added and a customer friendly format provided in keeping with existing titles. The book will be called THE BOWLS CLUB (REVISITED) and due to the substantial alterations comes with a brand new ISBN number 978-0-9546633-9-1. It is estimated that the book will have 250 pages whilst it will retail at GBP 8.99, have a release date of early Summer 2010 and a new website has just been launched. In the meantime it will be possible to place advance orders from 1st December via book shops or online at Amazon. Once again Paul plans to use part of the proceeds to sponsor local bowls events including an Under-18's Open Tournament which he hope to host at Potters Leisure Resort in February 2010.
