This successor volume to "Class and Inequality in Pre-Industrial, Capitalist and Communist Societies" examines the most important issues and debates relating to inequality and stratificaton. It covers all the major concepts, including power, priviledge, prestige, class and status. Topis discussed include: a critical examination of the major theoretical approaches to inequality and stratification; a discussion of key contemporary issues in capitalist and western industrial societies, such as the managerial revolution thesis and debates on the distribution of income; an assesssment of the recent social changes in Eastern Europe and how these have impacted on the system of inequality under communist regimes; and patterns of inequality, class and status in Third World and developing countries.
